Greg Beem, a native of Zion, Illinois, began his formal music training at age six. For 10 years he studied piano at the Zion Conservatory of Music with Evangeline Beem, receiving a diploma in piano studies from the conservatory at age 16. As a young child, Greg developed a keen interest in the organ and its music, leading him to begin organ studies at age 13 with Kathleen Hackemer, principal organist at Christian Catholic Church (now Christ Community Church), Zion, Illinois.

These early formative years were instrumental in Greg’s decision to pursue further musical studies at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Greg holds degrees from Butler University (Bachelor of Music), Concordia University-Chicago (Master of Church Music), and National-Louis University (Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership). His primary organ teachers have included David Koehring, Margaret McElwain Kemper, Herbert Gotch and Steven Wente.

For more than four decades, Greg has served the music ministries for a number of churches of various denominations in the Midwest area. He is currently principal organist at the United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. In addition to his service as a church musician, he served for 34 years as a music educator and administrator in the public schools in Northbrook, Illinois and is a former faculty member of the Zion Conservatory of Music in Zion, Illinois, where he taught both organ and piano at the pre-collegiate level.

Since his retirement from teaching in 2009, Greg has dedicated more of his professional time to his work as a church organist and recitalist. He is a member of the Organ Historical Society, the American Guild of Organists and has had the privilege to serve as Competition Coordinator for the Milwaukee Chapter 2013 AGO/Quimby Regional Competition for Young Organists in March of 2013.
