Building on the successes of the 2016 workshop, Nashotah House Theological Seminary in Nashotah, WI, will host the Church Musicians WorkshopJuly 16-20, 2018.   There are about a dozen organist places remaining for this wonderful and rewarding week!

The CMW is an intensive five-day residential program, nestled on Nashotah’s 176-year-old campus, steeped in sung liturgy, and featuring expert pedagogy presented by veteran church musicians, music educators, and seminary faculty.  Stephen Buzard, Director of Music at St. James Cathedral in Chicago, and formerly Organ Scholar and interim DOM at St. Thomas Fifth Avenue, NYC, joins the team this year.

The CMW includes one-on-one lessons, seminars, and master classes on a variety of topics of interest to church musicians, pastors, and worship leaders. Instruction is customized to accommodate various ability levels, and ample opportunity will be provided for practicing techniques and new concepts on instruments which have been made available for practice and performance at several area venues.

The areas of emphasis for advanced organists include chanting and accompanying the psalms and improvisation in the liturgy.  Beginner organists will focus on effectively leading a congregation and controlling the organ well.  Individualized timetables are built based on interest in masterclass topics.  Workshop topics range from service planning and choir conducting techniques to the anatomy of the liturgy and the origins of the “Anglican Choral Tradition”.

Each day begins with morning prayer and sung Eucharist, is punctuated by Evensong, and ends with chanted Compline.  3 meals are served daily, included in the registration fee.  Limited on-campus accommodations are available, with discounted rates at local hotels.

Registration is limited to ensure one-on-one attention. The cost for organists of all levels is $750, including two individual lessons and all meals for the 5 days.  The cost for clergy, lay leaders, choristers, and others is $600, and includes all sessions apart from individual lessons and playing in master classes, though group instruction on chanting the mass and daily office is available.  For more information and to register, please go to churchmusiciansworkshop.org or contact Fr. Pryor at apryor@nashotah.edu or 262.646.6520
