    invites you to experience the new Goulding & Wood pipe-organ in the Madonna della Strada Chapel. This pipe organ of three manuals and pedal, 70 ranks is the musical crown jewel of the chapel. The instruments leads music every weekend for Sunday worship and is heard monthly at their 3rd Sunday at 3:00 p.m. concert series.

    The 19 September will be performed by Steven Betancourt, University Organist and Director of Music.

    Steven Betancourt is the Director of Music for Madonna della Strada Chapel and University Organist for Loyola University Chicago. In addition, he teaches applied organ and directs the Schola Cantorum in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. Steven’s recent engagements include a collaboration with VOX3 Vocal Music Collective and a program for organ and dance as part of the Organ Series in Madonna della Strada Chapel in 2010. Additionally, he is a member of the auxiliary music staff of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Office for Divine Worship and also a consultant to The American Federation Pueri Cantores

    Previously, Steven was the Director of Music Ministries and Organist at Immaculate Conception Church on Chicago’s Northwest side. There, he led a vibrant program of four singing choirs, two ringing choirs, a contemporary ensemble and troupe of liturgical dancers.

    Steven earned his B.A. in music education from Whittier College in California studying with Dr. Frances Nobert and David McVey. His M.M. from Indiana University-Bloomington was a double-major program in organ performance and church music. His teachers at Indiana included Drs. Larry Smith, Carla Edwards and Marilyn Keiser.

    Daniel SullivanAmerican organist Daniel Sullivan has developed a wide-ranging career as a performer and teacher. He has been a featured soloist at New York City's Basically Bach Festival. In 2008-2009, Mr. Sullivan was appointed to the faculty of Juilliard to design and teach an organ literature class. Sullivan has earned degrees from Oberlin Conservatory, Yale University, and the Artist Diploma from The Juilliard School, where he is completing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree. His teachers have included Paul Jacobs, Thomas Murray, and Haskell Thomson. Mr. Sullivan currently resides in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and serves as an instructor at Immanuel College and as organist at Messiah Lutheran Church. danielsullivanorgan.com



    To get the most out the guest artists when they are here, we have scheduled a one hour lecture by each at 1:30 on the day of the concert with the concert starting at 3 p.m.  We’ll offer some refreshments in between the lectures and the concerts.  There is no charge for the lectures.

    October 24th marks the beginning of a new century of concerts that have graced the community for the last 100 years.  The MacDowell Club of Milwaukee opens its 2010-2011 season with a program presenting its newest Performing Members. 

    Taking the stage will be Cornelia Beilke, mezzo-soprano (Wauwatosa);  Bryna Berenzowska, soprano (Chicago);  Magaly Cordero, soprano (Oak Park, IL);  Elana Doubovitskaya, piano (Whitefish Bay);  Mark Jacobs, piano  (Shorewood), and Anna Kovovic-Frodl, piano (Racine).  Composers represented on the program are Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Lorca, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich.

    Although donations are always welcome, the concert is free and open to the public.  It will be presented in the Nancy Kendall Theater housed in the northern wing of the Joan Steele Stein Center for Communication / Fine Arts at Cardinal Stritch University, 6801 North Yates Road, Fox Point.  The Stein Center is located on the northern-most road of the Stritch campus, easily accessible from Port Washington Road south of the Green Tree exit off of  I-43 or via North Yates Road, just beyond Santa Monica Boulevard.  There is ample free parking in Lots 5 and 8, both immediately adjacent to the building. 

     Information about the organization, requirements and auditions for Performing Membership, as well as upcoming events, can be found at macdowellclubmilwaukee.org.

    Melissa PlamannMelissa Plamann is an accomplished organist with an exciting career as an organist. She has earned several degrees in organ performance with a bachelor's degree from Valparaiso University and a Master of Music degree from Emory University under the direction of renown American organist Dr. Timothy Albrecht. Plamann completed her Doctor of Music degree in organ performance at Indiana University. She has performed throughout the United States and Europe, and has taught courses in organ literature and church music at both Indiana University and Emory University. Ms. Plamann continues to concertize regularly and is currently the Director of Music at a church in Franklin, Indiana.
